By Train
There is a frequent and regular train service from London Liverpool Street to
Colchester North station. There are plenty of taxis at Colchester station which is a
10 minute drive from Knowles Barn.
By Car
Directions from London
On the A12 take the exit 26 turnoff signed to Colchester Zoo and the
A1124 Halstead. At the roundabout at the top of the slip road turn left to
Eight Ash Green and another roundabout in about 150 metres. Go straight over.
In about 200 metres, just past a second hand garage, turn right down Spring
Lane immediately before a pub (The Brick and Tile).
Go to the end of Spring Lane leaving the Cricketers pub on the right.
At the cross roads turn right into Argents Lane and follow the fairly narrow
lane to a T junction. Turn left over a hump back bridge. Keep going up this
road, through West Bergholt, until you come to a main road crossing in front
of you. This is the B1508 to Bures.
Go left and immediately right, leaving the White Hart pub on your
right. Follow this road for about 2 kms, over a cross roads (your right
of way) leaving Westwood Park on your left. In about another 1 km
there is a road off to your right signed to the A134. Ignore this and go
straight on. We are then the first drive on the left about 200 metres
after the sign to the A134.
Directions from Ipswich
Follow the A12 from Stratford St Mary about 2.2 kms up the hill,
until just after going under a bridge there is a Shell garage on the left.
Take the turn off to the left, signed to Langham. Go left again almost
immediately and go back over the A12.
At the next T junction turn left, and then right after about 400
metres at the next T junction.
After about a mile turn left and carry on for about 2 kms. There
is a sharp right hand bend followed by another T junction, where you turn
right. You should pass a butcher called Coleman on the left about 80
metres after the last turn. Keep going straight down this road until
another T junction. Turn left.
After about 400 metres fork right to Great Horkesley. About 1.3 kms
later you come to a mini roundabout and the A134 crossing in front of you.
Turn right.
Follow the A134 towards Sudbury, leaving a petrol station on your
right, and the Yew Tree pub about 400 metres further up on the left.
There is a mini roundabout with School Lane going off to the left about
50 metres after the pub.
Follow School Lane all the way to the end where there is another
T junction. Turn right, and after about 200 metres we are the first drive
on the left.
